Haiti FAQ

What will we be doing:

We have a couple areas that require training and experience (teacher workshops and the medical clinic) and a lot of areas that anyone can jump in and make a huge impact. We will have medical team and the teachers go to the clinic and schools half of each day and then the other half of the day, we will be at the VBS and around the house investing in the Red Door employees and friends. Below area a list of areas that we will have each of you decide where you want to spend your time during the week. We ask that you come with a flexible attitude as the schedule always tends to change from day to day and the availability of each of these opportunities changes from day to day as well.

What is the cost of a mission trip to Haiti?
The location fee is $600 plus airfare. Typically airfare is between $300-900.

Do I bring my own food?
Your meals (breakfast, lunch and supper) will be prepared and served by our wonderful Haitian staff. You will be responsible for buying your own food while we travel to and from Haiti, but there is not additional cost once you land in Haiti.

Do I need to bring money with me?
We recommend you bring additional dollars (in small bills) as you will have opportunities to visit and shop some organizations and the giftshop at the house which is filled with haitian made gifts and paintings. There will also be travel expenses to and from Haiti. Your leader will discuss this further.

What do I need to pack?
You will receive a packing list prior to traveling, and your leader will cover in great detail all that is needed.

Where do we stay?
We stay at the Red Door (see picture above.) This is our guesthouse in Montrouis. It is secure and gated with clean water, seperate air conditioned bedrooms for both guys and girls and bathrooms with showers. All bedding and bath towels are provided. You will sleep in firm mattress bunkbeds.

Do you require immunizations?
We encourage everyone to seek professional advice from their physician or travel clinic about what immunizations/medications are best for travel in Haiti.

How do we get to the guest house?
Our amazing Haitian staff will be at the airport to greet you and we will ride in pickup trucks to and from locations.

Do you need a passport?
You are required to have a valid passport to enter Haiti in addition to not expiring within 6 months of traveling.

Do you need any extra insurance?
We require all to purchase volunteer travel insurance for your trip. This is not insurance to protect your flight, but to cover medical and evacuation if necessary while on your trip. The cost starts at about $30 and you will receive the link to purchase from your leader.

How old must you be to go on a mission trip?
You will need to be 17 years or older.

SPAIN

Spain Trip Highlights

When: November 1-10, 2019

Where: Benidorme, Spain

What:

We will be involved in getting equipment, props, costumes, and people to fit into the vehicles, then helping to organize everything at the shoot location. Department heads will direct traffic, so as long as everyone has a servant’s heart and a cheery disposition, they don’t need a lot of prior experience with their particular task. Women who can help with hair, makeup, and costumes are always a plus, as well as handymen who can help with setting up set dressing and non-film equipment. If you have stage or production experience, let me know and we may be able to give them more responsibility in a specific area. Packing out will involve getting everything back to the studio, washing costumes, storing equipment and props, and doing some preparatory work for the next shoot, as needed.

Spain Trip Details

Housing: We will stay at a local hostel while in Madrid in a community called Los Hueros. It is within easy walking distance of the studio.

Food: The on-set catering is good, as are the meals at the hostel restaurant in the evening. Benidorme, it is a coastal town with a very pleasant neighborhood around the hostel. Unwinding after a day’s shoot at the evening meal has been a very positive team moment and witnessing opportunity as we interact with cast and crew who are not believers.

Cost: ~$1750-$2000 (depends greatly on flight cost)

Schedule:

  • Friday, November 1: Fly to Madrid
  • Saturday, November 2: Pack in Day #1.
  • Sunday, November 3: Pack in Day #2.
  • Monday-Wednesday, November 4-6: Shoot, wrap party on the 6th.
  • Thursday, November 7: Pack out Day #1.
  • Friday, November 8: Pack out Day #2.
